In 1998 the City Of Lovelock found that Union Pacific Railroad had made plans to demolish the Lovelock Train Depot. The City Of Lovelock went to Union Pacific and requested that they donate the building to the City Of Lovelock. In March of 1998 Union Pacific Railroad signed over the deed to the building and donated $42,500.00 to the City of Lovelock. The money donated was the money set aside for the demolition of the building. The building has since been moved to a new piece of property across the street and the restoration has been completed.
The Depot building now has new roofing, plumbing, electricity, heating and ductwork, paint and windows that have been obtained through generous donations and volunteer labor. The prison work crews provided extensive labor and restoration work. As with all large projects, this has proven to be a very expensive venture.
In June of 2002 a lease was awarded to local businessman Dan Crofoot who has opened a sandwich/ice cream shop, gift shop, and other miscellaneous items. When you are in the Lovelock area stop in and take a look at this remarkably well restored Train Depot.
